SATC Certificate for Southwestern University
Certificate issued by the Adjutant General's office and signed by both the Adjutant General and the Assistant Secretary of War (P.G. Harris and J.M. Wainright). There is an eagle insignia at the top of the page. The certificate recognizes Southwestern University’s contributions during World War I by way of its operation of the Students Army Training Corps. There is a seal embossed on the paper. On the back of the certificate, part of the title and the embossed seal are visible. Written across the page is what appears to be a name but is only semi-legible.

Letter regarding War Issues Course
Typed letter with 'Southwestern University, Georgetown, Texas.' in the upper left-hand corner as blue letterhead. Across top of page is written in pencil, 'SATC' and there is a paperclip mark of rust that overlaps part of the letterhead. The body of the letter is addressed to 'President Vinson, University of Texas, Austin, Texas,' and it recommends war-time curriculum changes at educational institutions in the district.

Typed letter with 'Southwestern University, Georgetown, Texas. Office of the President' in the upper left-hand corner as blue letterhead. The letter has a vertical watermark that reads 'Oriole Linen Bond'. The body of the letter is addressed to President Robert E. Vinson, District Educational Director, SATC, and it regards the “character and organization” of a proposed 'War Issues Course at Southwestern University,' including plans for the Fall, Winter, and Spring terms. It specifies the members of the course planning committee as 'C. A. Nichols, Professor of Education, Chairman, A. S. Pegues, Dean, Professor of Economics, Walter Prichard, Acting Professor of History, J. C. Gobey, Professor of Chemistry.'

Typed letter on War Department letterhead from the Committee on Education and Special Training to instructors of the War Issues Course. The letter indicates that courses related to the War Issues Course, including ‘courses on problems of the War, the Peace Conference, and Reconstruction,’ will continue at several educational institutions after demobilization of the SATC. The letter bears the horizontal watermark 'Hammermill Bond.' Typed letter on War Department letterhead from the Committee on Education and Special Training to instructors of the War Issues Course. The letter is from R.P. Brooks, District Director of the War Issues Course, to 'Professors in charge of War Issues Course.’ The letter concerns efforts the District Director is making to visit institutions where the War Issues Course is being taught, in order to write a report for the Director of the War Issues Course. The letter includes a questionnaire that professors are asked to complete, to provide data for the report.

Letter requesting information from Foreign Language departments, dated Oct. 11, 1918
This is a letter with a printed letterhead 'War Department Committee on Education and Special Training'. It has a list of Advisory Board members in the upper right hand corner and a list of committee members in the upper left. There is a watermark 'Royal Seal Bond' with 'U.S.A.' underneath between two horizontal lines. The letter is from the District Educational Director, Robert E. Vinson and is to 'The President, Southwestern University, Georgetown Texas'. The body of the text announces that the Committee has appointed a language inspector for institutions with SATC units in the tenth district and requests outlines of foreign language departments from department heads. Written in pencil across the upper left-hand corner of the page is, 'French - Vaden Spanish - Gray German - Lehmberg'. The back of the letter has the watermark 'Royal Seal Bond' with 'U.S.A.' underneath between two horizontal lines. Written across the top of the page in pencil is 'Refer to proper professors.'

This is a letter from R. C. Maclaurin, Educational Director, and for 'President R. E. Vinson, Austin, Texas.' It directs Vinson to communicate to the heads of institutions in his district that SATC students who have completed at least one year in technical programs should continue their advanced studies 'until otherwise directed'.

Letter requesting information from institutions with SATC units, dated Nov. 5, 1918
This is a typed page with a letterhead 'War Department Committee on Education and Special Training' and 'C.a.106' typed in upper right-hand corner. The watermark is Persion Bond with insignia above of eagle spreading its wings over an 'A'. Above the date, 'November 5, 1918', is 'Washington'. It is addressed to 'Institutions maintaining units of the SATC Collegiate Section' and is from the 'Committee on Education and Special Trianing, Collegiate Section' and is signed (in type) 'R. C. Maclaurin[,] Educational Director, Collegiate Section.' The body of the text asks for institutions with SATC units to provide the Committee with information called for on the enclosed form in order to enable the proper distribution of certain course materials.

This is a handwritten chart on a drawn grid (the paper has a watermark of Requisition Bond). At the top of the page is 'Institution[:] Southwestern University' and 'P.O.Address[:] Georgetown, Texas'. The chart has four columns, 'Subject,' 'Name of Officer in Charge,' 'No. of Instructors in Subject,' and 'No. of SATC Students,' the last of which is divided again into two columns, '1st Term' and '2nd Term Estimated'. The subjects are 'Military Law + Practice,' 'Sanitation + Hygiene,' 'Surveying + Mapmaking,' 'Mathematics,' 'Physics,' 'Chemistry,' 'Biology,' then two erased row values, 'English,' 'French,' 'German,' 'Geology + Geography,' 'History,' 'Psychology' and then three more erased rows.

Letter regarding Naval Reservists in SATC at Southwestern, dated Sept. 14, 1918
This is a typed letter with a letterhead of 'Receiving Ship at New Orleans[:] New Orleans, La.' On the left-hand side is typed 'GPC/GEW' and on the right is typed '14 Sept. 1918.' There is a watermark of Hammermill Bond. This is from 'Commanding Officer' and is signed 'Gilbert P Chase' and is addressed to 'R. W. Timsley, Act. Reg. of Southwestern University.' The next line is, 'Subject: Enrollment of Naval Reservists in SATC.' The body of the letter stresses that 'all men who have enrolled in the Naval Reserve Force, regardless of whether they have been called into active service or not, will be required to join the Naval Section of the SATC'.
