Letter regarding War Issues Course
Typed letter with 'Southwestern University, Georgetown, Texas.' in the upper left-hand corner as blue letterhead. Across top of page is written in pencil, 'SATC' and there is a paperclip mark of rust that overlaps part of the letterhead. The body of the letter is addressed to 'President Vinson, University of Texas, Austin, Texas,' and it recommends war-time curriculum changes at educational institutions in the district.

Letter regarding continued advanced technical study, dated Oct. 13, 1918
This is a letter from R. C. Maclaurin, Educational Director, and for 'President R. E. Vinson, Austin, Texas.' It directs Vinson to communicate to the heads of institutions in his district that SATC students who have completed at least one year in technical programs should continue their advanced studies 'until otherwise directed'.

Letter announcing plan for SATC, dated Aug. 20, 1918
This is a two-page typed letter on paper with a Howard Bond watermark. On the first page, 'American Council on Education Students' War Service Campaign' is typed in the upper center. It is dated 'August 20, 1918' and is from 'Robt. L. Kelly Campaign Director'. The body of this letter announces the inclusion of the War Department's official statement approving the revised plan for the Students' Army Training Corps. On the second page, the letter is dated 'Washington, D. C. August 20, 1918' and is signed 'Ralph Barton Perry, Executive Secretary, Committee on Education and Special Training.' The body of this letter announces that 'General Peyton C. March, Chief of Staff, today approved, by order of the Secretary of War, a plan for the organization of a Student Army Training Corps in the educational institutions for the country to train men as officers and technical experts in the army. The plan for the Student Army Training Corps, as altered to conform to the plans of the War Department for lowering the draft age, will utilize the plant, equipment, and organization of the colleges to maintain a reservoir of officer material for training, from which it will be possible to meet the enlarged needs of the various branches of service'. It also discusses the differences between the tracks for the SATC. On the back of the second page, 'SATC' is written in pencil and underlined.

Letter recommending textbooks for War Issues Course, dated Nov. 2, 1918
This is a two-page typed letter on white paper. The first page has a typed letterhead 'War Department Committee on Education and Special Training 10th District-Texas, Oklahoma, Arkansas, Louisiana' and is dated 'University Station, Austin, Texas, November 2, 1918.' It is from R. P. Brooks, District Director, War Issues Course' and to 'The War Issues Instructors, Tenth District, Students Army Training Corps'. In the body of the letter, Brooks recommends a list of European history textbooks for use in the War Issues course. The second page of the typed letter continues to recommend reading materials for the War Issues course. The final section states that 'as most of the men in the SATC units are without experience in college work, the Committee hopes that each instructor will leave no stone unturned to present the subject matter of this course in the simplest possible terms'. It is signed 'R. P. Brooks' then 'District Director, War Issues Course.'

This is a typed letter with a typed letterhead of 'War Department Committee on Education and Special Training, 10th District - Texas, Louisiana, Oklahoma' and is dated 'University Station, Austin, Texas Dec. 12, 1918'. It is from 'R.P. Brooks, District Director War Issues Course, Tenth District' and is to 'Instructors in the War Issues Course'. The body of the letter addresses the end of governmental supervision of courses in universities that had SATC units (due to the end of the SATC as a result of World War I ending). The War Issues course is available to be continued on a voluntary basis for those institutions that are interested.

Typed letter on War Department letterhead from the Committee on Education and Special Training to instructors of the War Issues Course. The letter is from R.P. Brooks, District Director of the War Issues Course, to 'Professors in charge of War Issues Course.’ The letter concerns efforts the District Director is making to visit institutions where the War Issues Course is being taught, in order to write a report for the Director of the War Issues Course. The letter includes a questionnaire that professors are asked to complete, to provide data for the report.

Letter regarding academic performance of SATC students, dated Nov. 5, 1918
This is a two-page typed letter from 'Robert I. Rees, Brigadier General USA General Staff Chairman' to 'Commanding Officers, District Inspecting Officers, District Educational Directors, and Heads of SATC Institutions'. It is dated 'November 5, 1918'. Both pages have a letterhead of 'Southwestern University Georgetown, Texas' and a watermark of Requisition Bond. The body of the letter on the first page discusses the poor academic performance of the men in many SATC units, due to the conflict between military duties and academic programs, and the 'prevalence of the idea that academic grades will count relatively little in the selection of men for Officers' Training Camps'. Commanding Officers are directed to 'make every possible provision for the requirements of academic study'. The body of the letter on the second page continues to instruct Commanding Officers on how to improve the academic performance of the SATC students. A new plan for Officers' Training Camps selection will include a minimum rating of 'Intelligence as indicated by the Academic record'; therefore, the 'importance of impressing upon men the need for strict attention to their studies is […] self-evident.'

SATC Certificate for Southwestern University
Certificate issued by the Adjutant General's office and signed by both the Adjutant General and the Assistant Secretary of War (P.G. Harris and J.M. Wainright). There is an eagle insignia at the top of the page. The certificate recognizes Southwestern University’s contributions during World War I by way of its operation of the Students Army Training Corps. There is a seal embossed on the paper. On the back of the certificate, part of the title and the embossed seal are visible. Written across the page is what appears to be a name but is only semi-legible.
