Letter regarding Naval Reservists in SATC at Southwestern, dated Sept. 14, 1918
This is a typed letter with a letterhead of 'Receiving Ship at New Orleans[:] New Orleans, La.' On the left-hand side is typed 'GPC/GEW' and on the right is typed '14 Sept. 1918.' There is a watermark of Hammermill Bond. This is from 'Commanding Officer' and is signed 'Gilbert P Chase' and is addressed to 'R. W. Timsley, Act. Reg. of Southwestern University.' The next line is, 'Subject: Enrollment of Naval Reservists in SATC.' The body of the letter stresses that 'all men who have enrolled in the Naval Reserve Force, regardless of whether they have been called into active service or not, will be required to join the Naval Section of the SATC'.

Pamphlet outlining War Issues Course, dated Sept. 10, 1918
This is a three-page printed pamphlet. On the first page, the letterhead reads, 'War Department Committee on Education and Special Training' and is dated 'Washington, September 10, 1918.' It is from the 'Committee on Education and Special Training' and signed 'By order of the Committee, Grenville Clark, Lt.-Col. A. G. O., Secretary.' It is addressed to 'Institutions where Units of the Student Army Training Corps are located' and is about the 'Course on the Issues of the War'. This is an updated version of a memorandum dated August 27, 1918 and distributed at Fort Sheridan and Plattsburg. The body of the text includes three sections on instructions concerning the War Issues course. The first section is '1. Purpose', which clearly states the content and goals of this course; it is "a course on the remote and immediate causes of the war and on the underlying conflict of points of view as expressed in the governments, philosophies and literatures of the various States on both sides of the struggle. The purpose of this course is to enhance the morale of the members of the Corps by giving them an understanding of what the war is about and of the supreme importance to civilization of the cause for which we are fighting." The next sections are on '2. Modification of Existing Courses' and '3. Time'. On the second and third pages of the printed pamphlet, the instructions for the War Issues course are continued. The next sections are: '4. Organization'; '5. Combination with English Composition'; '6. Content'; '7. Opportunity for Questions'; and '8. Materials'. Instructions are continued again onto the back and last pages of the printed pamphlet. The sections are '9. Attitude' and '10. Nomination of Instructors'. It is signed 'By order of the Committee, Grenville Clark, Lt.-Col. A. G. O., Secretary.'

Letter from Naval Reserve requesting information from Southwestern, dated Oct. 14, 1918
This is a typed letter with a letterhead of 'US Naval Station New Orleans, La' and watermark 'Coupon Bond' under an insignia of an eagle spreading its wings over an 'A'. It is addressed to 'President, Southwestern University, Georgetown, Texas' and is from 'Commandant, Eighth Naval District', signed 'GW Rowbotham'. It is dated '14 October, 1918'. The subject given is, 'Naval Training Units; subsistence and enrollments' and the body of the letter is, '1. Please advise the Commandant, Eighth Naval District of the per diem rate as contained in the contract with your institution and the War Department. [Written next to this line in pencil is '$1.3888'] 2. This is in order that the Commandant may make the necessary allowances to Naval Reservists on active duty assigned to Naval Training Units or Naval Sections of Army Training Camps. 3. Please advise the number of Naval Reservists registered at your institution.' [Written next to the last line in pencil is '9'.]

This is a typed letter on paper with watermark of Cascade Bond U.S.A. It has a typed letterhead of 'Headquarters District Military Inspector, Students' Army Training Corps, University of Texas, Austin, Texas' and is dated 'November 2, 1918.' The body of the text addresses how applicants will apply to vacancies in the SATC and asks institutions to provide a list to the Headquarters of all vacancies. It is signed 'H. LaF. Applewhite, Lt. Col., U.S.A., Retired, District Military Instector EDS'.

Grade report for SATC chemistry courses, dated Oct. 1918
This is a typed page with a watermark 'Requisition Bond'. At the top of the page is 'SOUTHWESTERN UNIVERSITY' and below that is 'Monthly Report Students' Army Training Corps' and then 'Reported by' with 'J. C. Godbey' written in and then 'Term: Fall...Month of: October'. The page is divided into three columns, the first is 'Last name...Other names,' the next is 'Course and Number,' and the third is 'Numerical Grade'. There are six names in alphabetical order for Chem. 1 with grades ranging from 51 to 98. There are two students for Chem. 61 and their grades are both 75. On the back of the grade report, 'Instructions' for the report are typed at the top.
