Letter recommending textbooks for War Issues Course, dated Nov. 2, 1918
This is a two-page typed letter on white paper. The first page has a typed letterhead 'War Department Committee on Education and Special Training 10th District-Texas, Oklahoma, Arkansas, Louisiana' and is dated 'University Station, Austin, Texas, November 2, 1918.' It is from R. P. Brooks, District Director, War Issues Course' and to 'The War Issues Instructors, Tenth District, Students Army Training Corps'. In the body of the letter, Brooks recommends a list of European history textbooks for use in the War Issues course. The second page of the typed letter continues to recommend reading materials for the War Issues course. The final section states that 'as most of the men in the SATC units are without experience in college work, the Committee hopes that each instructor will leave no stone unturned to present the subject matter of this course in the simplest possible terms'. It is signed 'R. P. Brooks' then 'District Director, War Issues Course.'

This is a letter from R. C. Maclaurin, Educational Director, and for 'President R. E. Vinson, Austin, Texas.' It directs Vinson to communicate to the heads of institutions in his district that SATC students who have completed at least one year in technical programs should continue their advanced studies 'until otherwise directed'.

Letter requesting information from Foreign Language departments, dated Oct. 11, 1918
This is a letter with a printed letterhead 'War Department Committee on Education and Special Training'. It has a list of Advisory Board members in the upper right hand corner and a list of committee members in the upper left. There is a watermark 'Royal Seal Bond' with 'U.S.A.' underneath between two horizontal lines. The letter is from the District Educational Director, Robert E. Vinson and is to 'The President, Southwestern University, Georgetown Texas'. The body of the text announces that the Committee has appointed a language inspector for institutions with SATC units in the tenth district and requests outlines of foreign language departments from department heads. Written in pencil across the upper left-hand corner of the page is, 'French - Vaden Spanish - Gray German - Lehmberg'. The back of the letter has the watermark 'Royal Seal Bond' with 'U.S.A.' underneath between two horizontal lines. Written across the top of the page in pencil is 'Refer to proper professors.'

The letter has a vertical watermark that reads 'Oriole Linen Bond'. The body of the letter is addressed to President Robert E. Vinson, District Educational Director, SATC, and it regards the “character and organization” of a proposed 'War Issues Course at Southwestern University,' including plans for the Fall, Winter, and Spring terms. It specifies the members of the course planning committee as 'C. A. Nichols, Professor of Education, Chairman, A. S. Pegues, Dean, Professor of Economics, Walter Prichard, Acting Professor of History, J. C. Gobey, Professor of Chemistry.'
